AH! WHAT WONDERFUL DAYS THESE WERE!

Several posts ago, under "ISN'T HE CUTE," I told a little about the first TV my parents had bought. A friend of mine must have read that post, as he sent me a photo of an old advertisment, and guess what?

This Motorola is the exact model of that TV! The date on this ad is September 1950.

  1. Wow, does this bring back a lot of memories? Howdy Dewty is pictured on the screen.

Some of my favorite shows were:

  • Gunsmoke
  • Bonanza
  • Dragnet
  • Jack Benny
  • Carol Barnett
  • Red Skelton
  • Jackie Gleason
  • Ed Sullivan

Sunday night was a must for the Ed Sullivan show. I viewed in person the debut of not only Elvis Presley, but also The Beetles, those long haired misfits from England. With Elvis, the TV audience was allowed to view him only from the waist up, as his hip gyrations were considered to wild for the early 50's.

These early shows were very, very popular, and I wouldn't be surprised if all of America watched them faithfully each week. While serving a church mission in Florida, in the early 60's, I and my companion were 'standing guests' at the home of the local Bishop each Sunday evening. He was a great member missionary and our purpose was to teach the first discussion. Each Sunday meeting was with new investigators, but first, we all had to watch Gunsmoke and Bonanza.

Ah, what wonderful days these were! Who can forget the Jack Benny show, with Dennis Day, Phil Harris, Mary Livingstone, Don Wilson, and oh yes, Rochester, the keeper of the vault?

I even remember watching the Green Hornet, even though this show was not one of my favorites.

ODDBALL STUFF IN SANDY!

I couldn't resist taking this picture.

State Street running through Sandy & Midvale offers wild and crazy sights for people like me, looking for the unusual.

This stork is just standing by itself in front of a house, and it has nothing to do with the billboard message in the background.

Grandma seems to think that this stork represents maybe an old diaper service, like with a name of "Tity Dity," or some sort. She thinks that it is an old sign someone found, and just for fun, propped up in his front yard.

One thing for sure is that this poor bird has another 367 miles to go before reaching the border. I'll bet his big beaky smile turns into a frown long before then. :)

OK! THIS IS ME - GRANDPA ZUCC

You have got to love this purse!! I do.

Ok! This is me - Grandpa Zucc. Racheal did a great job holding the camera steady. The reason I am smiling is because, at this event, I was accompanied by Mike's family.

Grandma is really studying the program in hopes that she can quickly discover Erin's name.

Can you find six people in this photo?

Erin looks so happy. I can't tell what Jenna is up to.
