Chichen Itza

We stayed two nights at the Mayaland Resort.  Built in 1923, this place was very quaint and atmospheric. It sits on about 100 acres and has it's own entrance gate to the ruins.  Our room was located on the 3rd floor which from the veranda, we had a magnificent view.  The tropical forest was beautiful, and we could see the Mayan observatory.

A beautiful fountain was located just below our room, on the floor of the inside courtyard.  Bamboo stems rise from the garden up past our room.

This tree was perhaps the biggest on the resort.  The roof you can see is of one of the bungalow rooms rented by guests.

The main pyramid was spectacular, as was all of them.  Bev made it to this structure and we had someone take our picture, then we parted ways with me going on the whole tour, and Bev making her way back to the resort.  During our separation we both got lost, but finally found the right paths.

Chichen Itza is a huge place.  It is definitely worth seeing.  If I were to go again, I would want to schedule at least two days on the site.

The evening light show at the main, great pyramid was canceled because of rain.  That night the thunder cracked as a tropical depression moved over the land, and the peacocks must have been nervous as they chattered all night.

Be sure to check back as I have more interesting tales to tell about this interesting place.
